Indoors again (sometimes!)

Sorting through photos from the past couple years I found so many images of my yoga mat unrolled in various outdoor locales (in this picture, on a yurt deck at El Cosmico in Marfa). As I fine-tune the upcoming Transitions workshops, I am reflecting on the benefits of being able to meet again in indoor spaces.

It's really important to me that the spaces I choose feel sacred. What makes a space sacred? We could spend a lot of time on that question, but two qualities that come to mind have very little to do with aesthetics and everything to do with energy: sacred spaces are safe and sane. Safe to show up as you are, whatever that means in the moment. Sane equals no drama, no judgement, fear or expectation: just life as it is in the moment. We can add to this definition some externalities; I carefully choose spaces that are clean, inviting, with a sense of calm and healing and connection with nature.

I hope you'll join me in exploring an indoor practice in one of my workshops this May at Dharma Yoga in Austin, or my special weekend retreat at the Maya Center in Isle La Motte, Vermont this June.

Namaste!
